A Doctor Strange Fan Has Found An Amazing Way To Simulate His Powers
WARNING! The following contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Infinity War. Proceed accordingly.
For a movie featuring the majority of the Marvel Cinematic Universe all crammed into a single story, Avengers: Infinity War still found a way to give each of its heroes moments to shine. Few shone brighter in Infinity War than Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange. He finally came into his own in the film and became more likable in the process. With such a strong showing, the Master of the Mystic Arts probably gained a new legion of fans who may want to cosplay as the character. And while capes and amulets should be easy to come by, simulating Strange's powers in a cool way is more difficult. However, one fan has come up with an amazing way to do so. Take a look:
I admit, that is way more impressive than I was anticipating. LEDs are truly magical. I suppose one could walk around twirling sparklers, but this seems like a safer, more efficient and ultimately cooler way to simulate Doctor Strange's spell casting. The patterns and everything, while not quite as detailed as those in the movie, look great and convey the same aesthetic as the magic in the movies. Strangely, the coolest part is actually how the spell finishes, with it glowing brighter before fading out into magic dust. This is incredibly creative and shows great attention to detail. It's just a shame that this person isn't rocking a full Doctor Strange getup to really sell it. Although I'm sure this video has given many cosplayers something to work towards for this year's Comic-Con.
Apparently this amazing effect is achieved using two modified LED fans that do not come cheap. On top of that, some complicated technology is required to individually address the LEDs and program them to make the pattern. I'm sure the answers are out there if you want to take a crack at making one, but it sounds like this takes some time even for someone experienced with the technology. Which begs the question, has Disney seen this video yet, and how soon will officially licensed Doctor Strange Magic Spell LED Fans be available for purchase? Seriously, there's a killing to be made here and that Mouse isn't known for walking past money laying on the ground.
Of course, while he undoubtedly gained some new fans, some people may be a bit cross with the Master of the Mystic Arts at the moment after Infinity War. The Doc gave Thanos the Time Stone, thus enabling Thanos to complete his Infinity Gauntlet and achieve his goal of wiping out half of life in the universe. Time will tell whether Doctor Strange completely blew it or played the long game and made the one move that could save everyone in the end. Either way, fans of the character now have a new cosplay goal forwhich to aspire. Now if only someone can figure out how to make an axe-hammer that sizzles with electricity.
