Chris Pratt Says Star-Lord Doesn't Regret His Big Infinity War Moment With Thanos
Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War will be forthcoming and prevalent in this article, as the header implies.
It's been nearly five weeks since Avengers: Infinity War first hit theaters. The movie has done well with fans and critics alike, but while people have been generally happy with the film, they are slightly less happy with some of the characters, or more so the decisions that characters made during the course of the event film. For the last few weeks, Chris Pratt has taken some flack for the decision Star-Lord made to confront Thanos right when they seemed to have Thanos where they wanted him. Weeks later, Chris Pratt is still defending Star-Lord, and he recently said the character definitely doesn't regret his decision to confront Thanos. Per what Pratt said in a recent interview:
Look -- the guy watched his mother die, he watched as his father-figure died in his arms, he was forced to kill his own biological father. And now has suffered the loss of the love of his life. So, I think he reacted in a way that's very human, and I think the humanity of the Guardians of the Galaxy is what sets them apart from other superheroes. I think if we did it a hundred times I wouldn't change a thing.
The moment in question featured some of the Guardians and the Avengers, plus Doctor Strange, who had traveled to Titan to face Thanos. They came up with a haphazard plan to distract him, then hold him down, giving them a brief window to pull the Infinity Gauntlet off of his arm. Amazingly, the strategy worked, but then Peter Quill blew it when Gamora's sister Nebula revealed Gamora had gone off with Thanos and had not returned. Star-Lord couldn't handle his emotions in front of Thanos, leading Thanos to use the opportunity to take back the Infinity War gauntlet and pursue his goal of destroying half of the life in the universe. A lot of Marvel fans have not been happy with Quill in the time since.
Still, while Chris Pratt is defending the movie moment, he's also kind of taking a shot at some of the other superheroes. They can't all be as emotional (read: relatable) as Peter Quill, or really most of the other Guardians of the Galaxy, as Gamora, Drax and Rocket all come with their own baggage. In Infinity War, Groot seems to be dealing with teenage emotions. Then there's Mantis, who can feel and even change the emotions of others. It's a common thread for the Guardians and it very much makes sense that Star-Lord would be the one to react emotionally to Thanos, at least according to Chris Pratt.
The news comes a few weeks after Chris Pratt also took to social media to talk about the big Avengers: Infinity War moment. At the time, he made light of the script, joking around that he would just have to "go and fuck [him]self." In the movie the moment is pretty serious, and now Chris Pratt has revealed he's actually kind of "sensitive" about the whole thing, especially as people's thoughts about the moment don't seem to be dying down anytime soon. He also told the Radio Times,
I guess you could have the movie end a half hour earlier if you wanted, but it seemed like people really liked this. And also, I blame Thanos, OK? Jeez, how come he's not getting any blame? Clearly I'm very sensitive about this.
He's not the only one. A certain blonde-haired hero has also taken some flack for a mistake in the movie, as well. As for the Guardians, it was only recently that Drax actor Dave Bautista mentioned that he is confirmed both for the still-untitled Avengers 4 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as well. We'll have to wait and see how all of the characters figure out how to get out of the pickle they are currently in with Thanos, and we'll find out when Avengers 4 hits theaters in 2019.
