How Donald Glover Worked On Marvels Black Panther
We're fast approaching a very exciting time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In just a few months, Avengers: Infinity War will finally arrive, and unite every major character from the shared universe in an epic battle against Thanos and his forces. But before that, we will first be treated to Ryan Coogler's Black Panther. Featuring perhaps the most impressive cast in MCU history, early reception for the blockbuster has been very positive. The amount of sheer talent behind Black Panther is pretty unbelievable, and now it turns out that Emmy winner Donald Glover (and Stephen Glover) briefly worked on the film as well. Coogler recently revealed this himself, saying:
Donald and Stephen actually gave me notes on a draft. They came in and read --- came in and took a day, they were really busy --- they took a day and read the draft... this was right before we started the shoot. They had some cool insight.
Well, this is pretty awesome. While not directly involved in the filming and production of the blockbuster, it's exciting to know that Donald and Stephen Glover were another set of eyes and ears on the early drafts of Black Panther. Considering what they've proven they could do with FX's Atlanta, the Glovers' involvement is yet another reason for fans to be psyched for the blockbuster to arrive.
Ryan Coogler's comments to Collider help clear up a mystery surrounding early screenings of Black Panther. Donald and Stephen Glover are reportedly listed in the special thanks during the film's credits, which confused and excited those folks lucky enough to get an early viewing. While the brothers clearly aren't writers on the film (that honor goes to Coogler himself and Joe Robert Cole), he did help the writer/director work on early stages of Black Panther's script. Now we just need to find out what their notes were.
Black Panther is just the latest in a long line of projects that Donald Glover has attached himself to in the past few years. Childish Gambino recently booked the role of Simba in the live-action version of The Lion King and is also playing iconic hero Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. He'd also been seen in movies like The Martian and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The small screen is also where Donald Glover has always shined, starting with his tenure on Community. Most recently he's been known for creating, starring in, and occasionally directing FX's Atlanta. This ultimately earned him an Emmy for both Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
We'll just have to wait and see if any more details go public about Donald Glover's contributions to Black Panther. The highly anticipated blockbuster will arrive in theaters February 16th. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
